Idle musings by a once again bookseller, always bibliophile, current copyeditor and proofreader. Complete with ramblings about biblical studies, the ancient Near East, bicycling, gardening, or anything else I am reading (or experiencing). All more or less live from Red Wing, MN

Quote for the day
"Jesus' commandment is harsh, inhumanly harsh for someone who resists it. Jesus' commandment is gentle and not difficult for someone who willingly accepts it." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
This is curiously similar to the Stoic saw: Fata volentem ducunt, nolentem trahunt (something like "One who is willing is guided by Destiny, while one who is unwilling is dragged." I wouldn't doubt that Bonhoeffer was familiar with it.

ReplyDeleteI read Bonhoeffer in small doses as he is somtimes quite painful and convicting to read. I do so love his writings. Thanks for posting this today.
