Paul’s theology is not directed
against Judaism; neither does he consider assemblies of Jewish and Gentile believers as the
replacement of Israel. On his reading, Israel is most truly itself when it is solely dependent on the root of God’s unconditioned mercy; and that is fully and definitively the case when it draws on the “wealth” poured out to Jew and Gentile in Christ.—J. M. G. Barclay,
Paul and the Gift, 566 (emphasis original)
