A passage in Isaiah [60:15–19] depicts God as the redeemer who brings precious gifts to reclaim Israel for his own. It certainly sounds like a “ransom,” and a “king’s ransom” at that — only it is not the king who is
being ransomed; rather, in a true gospel reversal, it is the king who is
