Whoa! When did they put obedience in that verse?! I don't remember that! But it makes sense, doesn't it? Obedience flows from faith via Jesus. We obey; he empowers. Again, no transformation, no salvation... Paul starts out Romans with obedience flowing from faith. Neat!

When did that get put in there?
Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. (Romans 1:5 NIV)

Not only does Paul start Romans with that little phrase "the obedience of faith," he also ends the letter with that phrase in Romans 16:26. Sounds like "the obedience of faith" is pretty important to understanding that letter.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had forgotten about it. Seems that a dichotomy of believing versus obeying isn't any more in Paul than it is in James, eh? : )
