There's nothing spiritual about saying you're seeking more of Jesus. Because He can't give you any more. So how then do we "make every effort" and what does it mean to "supplement our faith..."vs 5? I've been trying to understand 5-15 in light 3,4 from which you quoted. It's been a good struggle. In think I'm closing in on an answer, but would appreciate your thoughts.
