Eschatology in the Lord's Prayer

Structurally and theologically, the expression “on earth as it is in heaven” is the centerpiece of the prayer. It conveys a vision for heaven and earth being brought into harmony. The LP [Lord’s Prayer] does not depict heaven as the ‘analogue’ of the earth. Earth will not be subsumed in heaven, or simply dissipate in the coming eschaton. Rather, both realms are in movement toward their eschatological union.—David A. Clark, The Lord’s Prayer: Origin and Early Interpretations (PhD diss, University of Nottingham, 2014), page 124
